Why do people suddenly refer to meat as "protein." As in "I go to Rouses for most groceries but I buy my protein at Whole Foods." Too much Food Network or something? Such a trendy, douchy thing to say.

I don't do this, but to answer your question, is easier to say simply say protein than to say, beef, pork, fish, chicken, etc
