My MiL texted me earlier wanting to know what kind of pistol to buy for herself. She's taking a CC class this weekend and needs a pistol. I'm going to give her some recommendations, but would like for her to go deal with a store that has a good selection so she can handle a few to see what feels the best in her hands.

Sadly, outside of a few pawn shops, Bass Pro and Academy are really the only choices. Bass Pro probably has the larger selection of the two.

There are not any large "gun shops" around here.

Only local place I can think of worth checking out would be Lorant's. I've looked at guns there before, but never pistols specifically so I may be off base.

Can't post my video link right now (on phone) but I'm sure you've seen it before.

If she doesn't plan on carrying it exclusively, I would suggest she take the class with a full sized 9mm. It will be easy to control and won't have as much recoil as something small. If she hasn't shot pistols a lot, it will help her pass to use a large one.

Your MIL texts you on Wed asking what handgun to buy in preparation for a concealed carry class in 3 days......She doesn't need to buy a handgun on such a short notice. She needs to spend some time researching and shooting before buying. Heck, if she's like most women, she'll spend more time purchasing a pair of shoes than she's going to spend buying a gun. For now she needs to borrow a gun. If I lived closer, I'd let her borrow my Taurus 22LR revolver. If she insists on buying now, she can rent & shoot a number of different guns at Shooters USA, 357 Magnum Dr, Bossier City, LA. Pho # 318-747-5811.

Probably a toss up between Stoner and Elm Grove.
