My guess is leverage. The "real world" tests using hands require the person to be able to grip the phone and push in the center. A larger phone means a better grip with the phone being able to be held deeper in the palms allowing for more leverage and it feeling easier to bend when in actuality it's just easier to apply the force against the center.
