It doesn't appear to be an issue with the aluminum itself, but rather with the internal geometry of the device.

Apple is utilizing anodized 6003 aluminum for the external casing, which isn't exactly a malleable alloy.

Most of the bends are occurring near the volume buttons, which is where a hole exists in the structure of the phone to accommodate the buttons. If you apply a force vector at the proper angle, the internal forces of the structure become concentrated in this area, resulting in the bend.

If you don't apply a sufficient force vector at the proper angle, you won't see an indelible bend in the device.
