They're going to have to switch to chip and pin terminals before October 2015 anyway. Most of the chip and pin terminals have NFC built in.

I don't know but all of the major credit card companies are REQUIRING retailers to upgrade to the new systems by 2015.

They're going to have to upgrade their equipment soon anyway. The Chip and Pin standard they've been using over in Europe is mandated in the US for October 2015.
