It's a TV show. Just because there are things not actually rooted in our IRL reality doesn't mean that what's on the show is "fake". There's time travel in Back to the Future..I guess that means everyone was dead the whole time eh?
Time travel makes sense in Back to the Future because the world creates rules about it. The things done in lost seem haphazard, so I lost faith in the rules of the show and sought an alternate explanation.

When did Ben and Juliet die, as well as all the people on the freighter? How about Penny? Please think.

It's not debatable because the writers say so? I tend to think works can be interpreted, even beyond the writers intent, assuming that the writers here even had an intent. Let's be honest the show wrote itself into some corners, made rules on the fly, and left a number of hanging chads. But by all means, if they say they were alive, let's not have any discussion. Don't bother disputing any other interpretations, just take them at their word.
Also, seems to be a lot of vitriol in here for some reason. Sorry, I prefer to think of the show differently, even if it is wrong.

No, it's not debatable because Christian Shephard said so. How can the "long after you" comment be interpreted that they all died at the same time?

You're thinking of this show in the manner of an idiot. You're ignoring what the show has point blank told you and are taking vast jumps in logic in order for the Island to be the afterlife. That theory is only viable until you have Juliet's backstory, and then goes completely out the window in the Season 3 finale. It's clear to everyone who has remotely thought this through that they survived the crash.

There is no helping you...

Ben, came to the island as a kid if I recall. It is not shown how he died. But it is also not shown that the Oceanic people died. Yet, I think they did.
Juliet, I'm not sure when she dies. She is one that fits into my died way before Jack. We see how she thought she got to the island, but not everyone has to get there by a plane crash. Maybe she died in a car wreck or of a stroke, and what we are shown is her interpretation of getting to the island, joining Dharma.
Could also explain Richard never aging. Maybe he is a guide for the newly dead to the island. Jacob and the MIB/ smoke monster, clearly have supernatural power.

If he died, then how did he grow up? How did Charles Widmore have Penny if the Island is the afterlife? Did Desmond just imagine Penny and Widmore and just somehow die when his ship crashed? Please think.

And where in this drunken ramble was this even remotely implied in the series.

Then how did he recruit Locke and Juliet?! For fricks sake, THINK!

let's put those shots at the end of the show and it will be a little buffer and lull. And when people saw the footage of the plane with no survivors, it exacerbated the problem."

Only know that after the fact, they claim they were alive on the island.

I miss lurking in this thread. Here's a bump to the front page for the good old times.

Na. Me and Freaux were kind of trolling you guys because at the end of the finale they show the empty beach with the plane wreckage.
I still don't like that editing because it was either a poor choice of the final shot or outright trolling by the editor.

i wonder if the thread from the finale is still out there somewhere, i would love to read some of those threads from the last few weeks

I just want to know what the smoke monster did with Eko's stick.

After Eko's death, Locke retrieved the stick. Locke intended to use the stick as a marker for Eko's grave. As he was pounding the stick into the ground, he noticed an inscription: "Lift up your eyes and look north John 3:05". ("I Do") Locke interpreted "305" as a northward compass bearing, which led John, Kate, and Sayid to the Flame station. ("Enter 77")
Eko's stick was last seen at The Barracks in the backpack Locke demanded that Alex get. ("The Man from Tallahassee")

Tht Fringe thread reminded me of the epic journey I had with this show and everyone in this thread reliving the show through me. Great times.
