He won't be proficient with a cross bow either.

Didn't you get the memo?? Crossbow hating is the "in" thing now. Next they're going to say using a rifle is for handicap people as well.

I'm with Deacon on this one. If this hunt was just a "spur of the moment" type deal, he probably still won't be proficient enough to take an ethical shot.

If they've known about it all offseason, there was plenty of time to get comfortable with a compound bow. Hunting season is the same time of year, every year.

I've been practicing with mine since damn near April for the upcoming opener.

Edit: I just don't understand getting a crossbow for a capable 15 year old. Drawing on a deer within bow range is part of the thrill of bowhunting.

Well I'm going to step in here and ask a few questions and if they aren't correct well so be it.

My 13 year old daughter want's a crossbow. I know zero about bow hunting other than what I've read and heard many friends tell me. I don't bow hunt nor do I care too. I long gun it from time to time but I'm primarily a wingshooter.

Having said that, she has a 243 Ruger Youth Model and has shot once but didn't kill. She has a school friend who bow hunts and her father wants to teach my daughter and he's a good hunter as well as a good teacher. I have a private piece of land for practice and hunting.

I'd like to know what to buy for her. And for the record I have no clue what a cocking mechanism is, just to show you where I am with this.
