What could possibly go wrong?

Here's a hint...pick up a history book and look up LBJ and Vietnam.

If these strikes in Syria kill any civilians, being a country we are not at war with, could he be charged and indicted with war crimes?

Interesting question...very interesting if he called the shot. That said, there will be layers upon layers of plausible deniability built into this exercise.

I'd go with "stupidity" instead, mainly because LBJ did this shite in Vietnam and it was very ineffective to say the least, as multiple others have pointed out.

He needs to let the generals run the operation and go do something he's qualified to do, like weigh in on the Adrian Peterson situation by claiming that Roger Goodell acted stupidly.

Y'all do realize this is the same thing that is done for targeting in many other countries, right? He signs off on it. He doesn't target or "pick bombing targets" himself.

The requirements for strikes in Syria against the extremist group Islamic State will be far more stringent than those targeting it in Iraq, at least at first. U.S. officials say it is an attempt to limit the threat the U.S. could be dragged more deeply into the Syrian civil war.

quote:

By demanding the Pentagon gets his signoff on any strikes in Syria, Mr. Obama can better ensure the operation remain focused on his main goal for that part of the campaign: weakening the militants' hold on territory in neighboring Iraq.

Officials also said Mr. Obama wants to make sure the military actions in Syria are more like the counterterrorism operations in Somalia or Yemen.
