Tonight Texas killed a woman because she tortured and starved a 9 year old boy to death.
If it cost a little more to kill her versus feed and support her for the next 40 years, I'm ok with that.

I think it can be reformed a little. Perhaps only applying the dp in airtight cases with a confession, eye witness, or perfect DNA match. In exchange, the guilty party would be limited to one appeal and the sentence would be carried out in no more than 2 years following the original verdict.
