There's your first mistake. American sports teams are all franchises created based on media market sizes that would produce the most revenue.

And I loathe that. I like that the MLS at least tried to appear (even if only at face value) to try to inject some community and passion into something that is largely devoid of such things.

You clearly don't understand how sports work outside of America.

I do actually. I follow European football and American football, college and pro, very closely. I appreciate and love them both for what they are. And I don't get angry because our sporting structures and cultures are different from one another. it's just dumb to resent the way our leagues are set up opposed to how most other soccer leagues around the world do their business. Why limit your sports entertainment options? They both offer great products.

but if the MLS is going to turn into a clone of the NFL and NBA then I'm glad I haven't really gotten into it.

Why wouldn't they? The NFL and NBA models have been pretty successful, if you haven't noticed.

Just understand that there are some of us who embrace what makes international sport different from American. And that will usually affect our views and opinions of the MLS because of the similarity of the sport being played.

Fair enough man, to each his own. I've embraced it too. I love it. But there's no reason to hate our leagues just because other countries do things differently. And to say that the MLS shouldn't follow, to some extent, the blueprint that's been laid out by the NFL and the NBA, isn't fair. Those business models are clearly working for them.
