I just don't get the toy dogs, especially for families. I know people have different opinions, but I'd much prefer my kid grow up with a golden or a lab or something like that.

And, typically, the best dogs for small children are the ones that have high pain tolerances and easy-going temperaments.

Some people don't have the yard, don't want a large animal in their home, don't have room for it to get exercise, etc.

I grew up with a medium sized dog (Blue Heeler -- a form of Australian Cattle Dog), but I also grew up on several acres in the sticks.

Also.. as much fun as I had growing up with her, I didn't have the emotional attachment I have to my current indoor dog (Westie).
