First of all, LSU absolutely does not run any pro sets. Most say that they run a pro style since they aren't trying to go with the fad flashy college offenses (I guess) but I haven't seen them line up in a pro set in years. Sure it might happen a few times a game but that aint shite.
Second, the I-formation is Les' favorite form and I it is also my favorite because I personally believe that it is the best formation for utilizing the strengths of a team.
For instance, if you have one road grader TE and one R Dickson TE on your offense then you can definitely line up with only one rec and 2 TEs and be extremely effective passing the ball. By varying the number of TEs and WR, the Tigers can seek out mismatches in personnel and still have many options from the same formation for audibles, etc.
The Tigers use other formations but this seems to be CLM's thing and it is a damned good formation that is extremely flexible. It is a major reason why the Tigers have always worn opponent's down and have dominated the 4th qtrs for a decade now.
