It was founded by Christians (mostly)
It was populated by Christians seeking freedom from the Crown in order to worship freely (mostly)
It was founded on Christian principles
The founding fathers seemed pretty clear in how they viewed this country as being especially blessed by the God of Christianity in their own writings
So I would say...yes it mostly was founded that way or at least a strong argument can be made if one reads the actual writings of the founders
