aid to Liberia I can get behind.
Sending troops there, is beyond idiotic. They are soldiers. They cannot fight a virus.
Send doctors, send people versed in infection control guidelines and freaking basic hygiene.
Sending soldiers there is asking for our soldiers to get sick.
Stupid.
The military encompasses far more than just fighting troops.

It is understood the US military will oversee building new treatment centres and help train medical staff.

Known.
But when you send the military you are sending the doctors and all of the support staff to keep with them.
You are moving too much into the area where I think you should go as lightly as possible. I think any doctors sent there should be a purely advisory role and/or research and none of them should come in direct contact with patients who have contracted the virus.

I understand we have medical personnel and specialist in our military, but shouldn't this be a WHO and UN mission?
We do not need to spread our resources too thin as well. Just hoping this does not come back to bite US in the arse.
