A small relatively unknown school trying to get national recognition the last thing you want to do is adopt something that is similar to and too easy to get confused by another major institution that already has it. Its even more regional than Southwestern Louisiana which was the reason for the name change in 1999.

Really I'm from Lafayette. I'm a USL alumn. So I have no problem with the University in general. I've been to the New Orleans Bowl and had fun.
It's just these decades of putting up with this god dang penis envy of LSU that drives me crazy. This huge chip on their shoulder and all they can think about is becoming "Louisiana" and how LSU holds them down...
Plus all my relatives are big "UL" fans and some work there. So one way or another, I gotta always eat shite about LSU this and LSU that. When LSU loses they are basically giddy and trying not to show it. I can't say anything cause they're all great people otherwise and my wife's family, so I'd be in the permanent dog house. One way or another I've had to put up with this crap for 30 years now, ever since I finished up at LSU.
So I totally understand the mentality of both sides, and I come down hard on the side of LSU.
There's just no comparison.
So I'm taking out 30 years of GFY frustration on you guys.. Feels good too

You're right. I hate LSU. That's why I have "LSU" in my handle and post regularly about LSU sports on an LSU-centric website. I signed up for an account 6 years before I was a student at UL and I've requested a name change several times. If you'd like to put in a good word with Chicken for me, I'd appreciate the support.
