sure. Pro sports are swayed much by public opinion or in other words morality. Societal norms are changing and so is the support or financial decisions of pro sports. Right or wrong it is a fact that they follow each other lock step.

Absolutely correct!!
'beating' is a charged word. I was whipped many times with a switch from a peach tree. Hurt like hell - probably left some welts - but didn't injure me.
The only part of the story I have heard that is a bit overboard is whipping with a switch on bare skin. That can cut.
But all this shite about 'beating' is pure bullshite - unless of coarse the kid was really beaten. To refer to corporal punishment as a 'beating' cheapens the word and pussifies the culture.

Lots of kids grow up in single-parent homes and end up perfectly well adjusted. Same for those in mentally abusive homes. And those who grow up hungry and poor.
That doesn't make either of those things good.
