Hong Kong Chicken at Shing's

Yes, yes, Board of Health, etc. etc. Don't care.
There was a dish at Shing's -- Hong Kong Chicken. A boneless chicken breast fried tempura-style with a brown, slightly sweet gravy/sauce. Probably cornstarch based, probably had five spice powder. I loved it and have found it at no other Chinese restaurant. Anyone remember it or have experience with a similar dish? Hubs thinks I can recreate it. I am not so sure!

Sounds like Mandarin Chicken to me

The Mandarin Chicken I have encountered does not have a heavy batter like this, and the chicken is not completely covered with sauce. I will check out a few recipes for Mandarin, though. Thanks!
