So my buddy got me wondering. Was peen states ban lifted to ensure the big ten gets another shot at landing a playoff team?

Would they have been let in had the big ten not.be soooo shitty this year?

No, for starters negotiations for something like that started long before the season started. The timing of the announcement after the bad week 2 for the B1G looks a little bad but was really just a coincidence.

However, more importantly and much to the disdain of SEC tards everywhere, the B1G was not eliminated from the playoff after week 2. Sure it was fun to rip them after, MSU, OSU and UM all lost high profile OOC games and a some other teams either lost to or barely beat scrubs. However, MSU lost on the road to a top 5 team, if they run the table and finish 12-1, they will be in the discussion for a playoff spot at the very least and would probably be in. Unless Oregon fell to like 7-5 (unlikely) playing that game will help them. Likewise Wisconsin, lost week 1 by 4 away from home to a big bad SEC team. Win out and at 12-1 they too would at the very least be in the discussion, no one will remember or care they they "only" lead some scrub in week 2 by 6 at the half or whatever. Oh and lets not forget Nebraska is still undefeated, so while they were rightly piled on after barely beating McNesse that week 2 disaster for the B1G, un undefeated Nebraska would be in the playoff, no question.

ETA: What it does do is help the B1G fill all it's bowl spots.
