I've also found downing a Prilosec with a bottle of water before bed seemed to help some, if I can remember to do it every night.

I used Zantac and Tagamet and such for a while, with mixed results. Prilosec, though, worked really well for me.
Also, don't drink on an empty stomach. That will ruin me for a few days

I get heartburn sometimes when I drink whiskey. If the first drink gives me heartburn or if I feel it coming on, I switch to gin or vodka...or beer. I have not gotten heartburn with gin, vodka, or beer.
I sometimes eat late right before bed, but can't recall getting heartburn from it.
