Let's talk scouting and youth squads. Do you guys scout specific players from specific teams? Do you make several sets of instructions and hope the scouts get you some good talent? Do you get picky or do you stay broad in what you're looking for?

I've figured out pretty much the science between the type of player you scout for in your youth squad and what that you want. For forever the only fullbacks or any youth squad players I was getting would be 85-90's overall but their speed and stamina were always shiite. I've played around with it and every playing style and know what to tell my youth scout for now regarding what type of player I want skill set/athletic abilities. I also always have a TON of people on my youth squad and then will ship a few of them per transfer window to FC Dallas so they get playing time. I just enquire about some random FC Dallas guy who plays the position of my youth squad player and then send the youth squad player over in the deal and just cut the FC Dallas player. I do this just whenever my squad is packed and I can't get them playing time. I'd say about 40% of the ones I send over actually hit their potential 84-94 and it's funny to check the standings later on and see FC Dallas just wrecking the MLS every season.

There's always a few guys I go after in every manager mode (but in 15 the progression is somwhat random unlike in past years and I won't always sign these guys) including Gerard Deulofeu (fast), Kevin De Bruyne, Marquinhos, Alan Halilovic, Timo Werner, Raheem Sterling to name a few.

When it comes to scouting for some reason I'm extremely OCD when it comes to not having any players other than maybe a GK late in the MM over the age of 30, so I never scout for a player over that and rarely sign anyone older than 25-26. I like almost all of my players to be pacey so I always search for that.

Rant over haha

I use SoFIFA a ton when I'm searching for a specific type of player to fit my list of criteria...stuff that the scouts can't necessarily find.

When I'm looking for some backups or young players to build up my reserves (with the amount of teenagers in the database, I'd rather scout and sign real guys before the generated dudes, at least for the first few seasons), I go with the game's scouts. I'm super picky on what kind of player I'm looking for, usually, because I don't want to have to sort through a ton of useless players the scouts find.

When I'm down between two or three players for one spot on my roster, I usually check SoFIFA for their potential ratings.

If you're talking global transfer market I always have 3 searches running
1) 16-19 y/o, any position, promising
2) 19-23 y/o, any position, first team quality
3) 23-28 y/o, any position, first team quality, 0-1 yr contract

Then I just create other criteria when I see that I need a player.

I always end up getting every possible scout and send them to: Germany, Italy, England, Spain, France, and then one who I send to random countries until they say "found all I can".

If you're talking about youth scouting, I save until I can afford 5 star scouts. To me it's easier to try to buy young promising players than it is to find good ones with bad scouts.

Once I have the scouts I send them out with no specific instructions for 9 months. When the report comes back I automatically sign any player with 70+ to 94 potential. I reject any player that has less than 90 potential.

Once I have a solid (usually filled) youth squad I may start specifying that I want to scout defensive minded or attackers. Typically "wingers" are the best players in the game because they have the best physical stats. If you find a player that plays fullback and is a winger he's going to generally be a beast.

Pro tip: always, always, always wait until May 1st to sign a youth player. They spike in their overalls on that day. Just be careful they don't leave your academy. I've also found that 17 y/o don't grow much (if at all, on May 1st) if they've been in your academy for a while (1.5+ seasons).

Also, the hierarchy of potential goes: good (80+)--->exciting (85+)--->special (90+). Good luck!
