Saw tonight on ESPN that the police state that the tapes were sent to the NFL a while back.
Why would they do that, what police purpose would that serve?

I used to work in state government doing investigations of matters involving the police and hospitals, both of whom are supposed to keep everything confidential (apart from what they were legally obligated to provide). Trust me, a lot of shite gets passed unofficially from agency to agency as a heads up, none of which is admissable in court, but can certaintly help shape an investigation.

Why would they not send tape to the NFL? Not sure what you mean by "police purpose" and why that should matter.

The police can't just give evidence away, its a breach of due process and risks any future trial.

The guy sent it because he wanted the NFL to have a full and complete understanding of the crime before announcing punishment.

Well the NFL tried to throw the police under the bus earlier this week saying they were not cooperative. They probably wanted to clear their name and get out from underneath the bus.

Why would they? So the NFL can ban him?
Not sure why police would send evidence to a private company?

Uh, not really. The tape was already available if anyone really wanted it. Not sure what you mean by "breach of due process". I don't see how you arrive at that conclusion.
