The Chinese have filled their pockets with cash copying Honda engines. Most of the cheap generators have a Chinese clone(Chonda Engine) of the Honda GX Series engine.

I have a mid 80s Honda 5000 Generator that I needed an O-ring for the carb bowl. Honda part O-ring was $22 plus shipping. Chonda carb rebuild kit with O-ring was $8 shipped or a new carb for $18 shipped.

I would just dump the fuel out and try new gas along with a plug and possible light sanding of the points. Those carbs were pretty simple and almost bullet proof. Usually in my ancient experiance if it is a carb problem just pull it off and spray with carb cleaner, check float is free, dump the bowl and re-install.
