Which would you recommend?

You can get a new carb from ebay or amazon for $25-35. They are probably Chonda parts (Chinese Honda knockoffs) not Honda OEM.

I have a 1990 Four Trax and have used a few Chonda parts and haven't had a problem.

The Chinese have filled their pockets with cash copying Honda engines. Most of the cheap generators have a Chinese clone(Chonda Engine) of the Honda GX Series engine.

I have a mid 80s Honda 5000 Generator that I needed an O-ring for the carb bowl. Honda part O-ring was $22 plus shipping. Chonda carb rebuild kit with O-ring was $8 shipped or a new carb for $18 shipped.

I would just dump the fuel out and try new gas along with a plug and possible light sanding of the points. Those carbs were pretty simple and almost bullet proof. Usually in my ancient experiance if it is a carb problem just pull it off and spray with carb cleaner, check float is free, dump the bowl and re-install.

I used this site for all questions when rebuilding my 1985 atc 70. I have since then torn her back down and will get the frame powdercoated and gonna customize it.

OP, I might still have a complete shop manual. If I do, you are more then welcome to it. I will check around maybe later today. I also have some parts too. Maybe a complete engine if I didn't give it away already.

Tried the above already in combination with running a tank of fuel spiked with Sea Foam through it. Improved a little but not much.

I unplugged the spark plug wire last night to check the condition of the plug and the gap and noticed that the clown that rebuilt the bike for me last year put a screw inside the plug cap to make the connection instead of changing it out.....

You can probably buy a new carb for about the same price as having someone rebuild that one.
