Yeah, around the late 90s and early 2000s instead of throwing extra point balls back to the opposing student managers, students started passing the ball up the student section and over the top.

I think it was '01. UF was kicking the shite out of LSU and it had monsooned all day. The student section just got fed up late and threw the ball out of the top of the stadium. It quickly started a tradition, which was quickly followed by a net being placed behind the N. Endzone goalpost

1. I saw two elderly (easily 75+) men get in a fist-fight two rows down from me over a woman under couldn't have been under 65 years old. It was the slowest fight I've ever seen.

2. A week after LSU's huge upset over UF in 1997, Ole Miss came to town and kicked LSU's arse in an 11:00 am game. It was one of the most deflating losses I can remember. Sometime in the 4th after another Ole Miss score some guy a section over just had enough of watching the OM cheerleader run up and down the sideline with and OM flag. That a-hole threw a full large coke from 35 rows up at the cheerleader. Unfortunately he didn't have quite enough arm and hit an old lady in the first row who looked like Barbara Bush in the back of the head. The blow caused her to "Pete Rose" out of her seat onto the ground. Her son was pissed, and that poor old lady spent the rest of the game cleaning coke out of her ear

Yes, I wasn't in the student section in 2001, but I do remember the UF game where all of their many extra point balls found their way over the top of the north endzone. The next year the nets were introduced.

You're thinking of 1999.
