The jam in the first 10 minutes of so in the 11/7/96 Gin, before the clavinet/midi horn Page breakdown part in the middle, is some serious Trey heat

The shows following 10.31.96 were hot. The Talking Heads influence took immediate effect. Karl Perrazo was key as well. The 11.3.96 Tweezer also destroys.

i mean i thought they sucked too before i saw them but they have they best strings of any jam band.

al schnier > jake cinninger > barber > warren haynes >jimmy herring > bill nershi > loltrey >

i don't understand how much denial phish phans are in these days. trey is the most overrated jam band guitarist playing right now. every 3.0 show of his ive seen, his playing is extremely mediocre

so this thread has led to me re-listening to some '94 stuff on my harddrive

I'm sure I've posted this before, but if you want to hear the absolute definition of "locked in" in reference to a full band sort of jam, listen to about 29:55-33:00ish in this jam: 11/26/94 Bowie

30:40 is when it starts getting fricking NUTS

'94-'95 Phish > everything else. they were pushing fricking envelopes no other loljambland comes close to pushing.

I do like Al. He has one of the best tones out there ,IMO.

Jake Cinniger is a computer, and that's not a good thing.

Barber can still rip.

Haynes is good.

Herring in the right setting (Jazz is Dead, Aquarium Rescue Unit) but WSP SUX.

Nershi? That dude is JB level.

yea, i wish i could've gone to those shows when i was like five. would've been so tite. i agree with you for the most part

but

01 Barber > 90s Trey > 78 Jerry Garcia

its great that jerry and trey laid the foundation for barber to be so much better. each generation learns from the last and makes improvements.

Is JB officially the worst guitarist in the jam scene?

I just think the 30-40 minute way the frick out there type 2 stuff in 94-95 are what sets them apart. I know those jams don't seem to get much love on the MB, but those were special.

No one else did shite like that in the modern jam scene. No one.

he's a guitar stuntman, extremely gifted. and as you can see cinninger can play anything, funk, jazz whatever he really shits on every other guitarist in the jam band scene except schnier. of course you don't like metal but metal guitarists are the best regardless of whether you like umphreys.

better than trey. you'll see at hulaween. he fricking shreds on that acoustic

I love the Biscuits, and that's a great jam, but no

The Biscuits aren't good enough to take it way the frick out there like Phish used to be able to

i like moe, but schiner isn't even the best guitarist in his own band....garvey's much more versatile.
