I limit my kid to 30 minutes, and ONLY if it's raining or dark outside.
The boy will also sit on a pier and fish for 5 hours straight without a bite.
You just need to take charge and teach those nephews some work ethics, social skills, and a love for the outdoors.

There seems to be a disconnect between parents and kids nowadays.

"He doesn't want to go outside. He just wants to play video games."

That is not a good excuse. Make them do something else, emphasis on "make".

It isn't complicated.

I started a few months ago requiring all phones to be put away when I'm at dinner with friends and family. I know that at first I looked like an arse, and I've walked out of a few meals, but I was tired of looking around and not having anyone to talk to because people had their heads buried in their phones. I was as guilty if not more than anyone I was with too.

Now, my meals with family and friends are so much more fun and entertaining. I have a love/hate relationship with technology.

I also don't understand college and above aged pepole playing tons of video games either.

But, I have too many hobbies. Maybe I just don't understand.
Does that make me better than them? Who knows? I'm not one to judge.

But yes.

[quote]I'm going to take a wild guess and say you don't have kids. Your time is coming.

I would say he is spot on, and I have kids. Our house was not a democracy, if we decided the kids didn't need to do something they didn't get to do it. Are parents being in control of their kids no longer a basic principle of parenting?

At first I got into heated arguments with a few friends about it, but slowly people have come around. I know I looked like a dick, but if my time is so worthless to you, then why ask me to dinner.

And I admitted being one of the worst offenders, then one night as I stared at the wall with hardly anyone speaking something just clicked.

I play video games because they allow me to enter a different universe.

A universe in which my life doesn't suck and isn't filled with women turning me down every chance they get.

In those games, I'm the hero and everyone loves me.

That's why I play video games, I just want to be loved.

I don't think 12 hrs a day is the norm. Sounds like her nephews are just nerds
