well this is really trite, but I think it is interesting that tomatoes and potatoes came from America when they are so closely identified with Italian cooking and Irish (potatoes).

Syphilis also came from America, and later had a direct influence on European life, politics, and royalty. Everyone focuses on smallpox coming from Europe to the New World and devastating it, which is not to be ignored. But it went both ways.
