He does not plug holes. He shuffles his feet and looks for a blocker and engages until the play is over. We would probably be better moving Kwon inside and playing Debo on the outside. I know Kwon is small, but hell, you CAN NOT do worse. On a positive note, Welter does show up to the tackle just in time to celebrate every play. He's good at that.

I'm almost believing this is what Welter is coached to do hes so consistent at it. He never plugs holes at the line of scrimmage and always gets engaged 3 to 4 yards off the ball.

Maybe Chief knows he cant plug a hole at the line so Chief just says "DJ try to stay right were you lined up and see if you can catch the guy when he runs by you for a three yard gain"

If welter is so smart and knows where the ball is then he should be there 1st instead of last. He is like watching a pee wee player that dog pills on top after tackle has bn made . I think last year we had 2 or 3 defenseive lineman that only cared about getting a check this year in nfl . They were more about themselves and not lsu

I initially thought that he might be getting excessive bashing, but watched him on the replay last night and he is pretty bad. Reminds me of years ago when we used to wonder why Hookfin was playing in the defensive backfield. I know we had some bad performances on defense all around, but I think we were all hoping he had gotten better.

Another thing is we keep hearing how Welter is in there because of his knowledge of the defense (alignment, coverages, etc.). And how certain 2 year players are not ready because they need to be coached up (Herron, Beckwith). My thoughts are either Chief's system is really hard and they can't grasp it, or they are not being coached very well. I'm starting to think the latter.
