I think it's less about the quality of movies and more about home viewing options getting better and better. This summer has had some really good movies I think, but plenty of people don't enjoy the movie going experience and will wait to watch it on their own home theatre. Sports venues age facing similar challenges

Oh and piracy isn't helping either

There's that and with rising ticket prices I make a value judgment about what kinds of movies are likely to be better on teh big screen and what types are unlikely to be more enjoyable in a theater.
