The great thing about 2 was the control. You could play by the rules and have fun accomplishing goals, but still create exactly what you wanted along the way. And you could do this without mods. I only played 3 for a little bit, and it seems they stripped that away, made you play their game more than create your own game, if that makes sense. Going from 2 to 3 was like they turned a PC game into a console game. The micro-gameplay was better but the macro-gameplay was worse.
Hopefully this one strikes a good balance. I'll probably get it on steam

The way I would describe it is it's an improvement on The Sims 2 format. It seems like they went back to The Sims 2 format and decided to build on that instead of building on the format of The Sims 3. And they've done a great job with it. There are a lot of people who are pissed and hate it though because there's no "open world" like there was in The Sims 3.
