For example, the drumline added a new drum cadence for the march to and from the stadium in 96-97, and it took 4-5 weeks for the complaints to die down and people to get used to it.

I have never played in a band, but I do enjoy the marching bands, especially the drums. What do you mean by a new cadence? I'm guessing you are talking about the "extended version" of the cadence. I know that the first part of it has been played as far back as I can remember, which is the 80s. By the way, I would not have complained about the "new part". I like the extended version.

I barely could hear the band because it was so loud when we were rallying and they were below me. But I could tell they were playing because the crowd below me was doing the cheers with them. No fault of the band, but a compliment on how loud the fans were.

One of the drum captains wrote a 3rd cadence to go with the other two that we started using in 1996. So I guess that would make it the extended-extended version.

I just found it crazy at the time that anyone cared. Most fanbases could give less of a damn about the entire band, much less the drumline cadence. That's one of the things that really stood out to me as a member of TGBFTL, and something I have always appreciated. It is a different world for most other band programs. Out of the SEC, there is a huge drop off in fan interest and respect beyond LSU and Tennessee. Well, I guess you have to throw the damn Aggies and their backward asses in there too. I hope this never changes.
