I think the original game plan was based on the Iowa game plan. Tiger coaches thought Badger defense would be worse than the Iowa defense(hell who didn't, entire front 7 departed from a D that wasn't as good as Iowa was last year on D). Get the new QBs a win and get them to 2 cupcakes. I think the coaches also thought that Badger O would be much better than the Iowa O, and it was with a powerful OL and a great back.
I'm giving coaches a pass on this, and they adjusted well once we got 17 points behind. I'm also giving Badger D coaches super credit for a great game plan that totally confused our blockers.
However Anderson seemed to want to force the pass and be balanced. Gordon carries in 2nd half were puzzling and they kept throwing long and intermediate passes almost hoping to get lucky one time. Even the announcers quickly figured out the Badger WRs were totally mis matched against our DBs. Chavis realized two things, we cannot stop their running game in base, and they cannot complete any passes and adjusted.
Cam adjusted as well, TEs cannot catch or fumble when they do, and screen passes look horrible. We cannot run. We don't have a choice but to challenge them deep at this point. It worked and opened the run game as well.
