As a parent, I'd probably do the same thing as these folks. I wouldn't judge any parent going through the nightmare of having a dying child.

As a detached observer of the story, I'd think maybe if the child has been declared to not be a candidate for this treatment for clearly defined medical reasons and the parents are unwilling to accept it due to their grief, then the parents are wrong and their actions are possibly detrimental to the child.

Arresting them is a bit much, though.

Yeah, but that seems to be the opposite of this situation. Based on the article, the boy has a 70-80% chance of 5 year survival with the standard radiation treatment, and the doc believes he may not be a suitable candidate for the proton therapy (even if available).

Why they have rejected a treatment plan that provides for a good prognosis, in pursuit of an alternate course, is puzzling, based on the information in the article.
