As long as we use internationally traded commodities to supply our energy consumption, there will be no independence.

I always thought the long-term plan was to use up all the MEs oil first, then start using ours.

I believe we technically could do it now if we wanted to. The fracking movement and the deepwater drilling technology has made it feasible.
There is a shite ton of natural gas available to us.

I say we continue as is and import oil from friendly countries while ramping up NG exports to Europe.
My dream is to start building some new nuke power plants.

Thats only if we can allow ourselves to produce our own oil and create renewable energy sources that's convenient to use and cost effective.

We're not there yet.
