I hope we wipe Muslims from the face of the earth before we collapse!

Corruption, immorality, and greed have directly led to the downfall of every civilized society in history. EVERY SINGLE ONE !!

It's over a longer timeframe but the US is like a family business where the first generation busts their arse to build it, then the subsequent one thinks it is entitled so they squander what they were given. Maybe it will continue to exist in some half-assed form, maybe not.

Just leave! Be gone. This kind of thinking is not wanted in the U.S.
The US in this century will be looked back on as one giant case study in group think. It has all the classical symptoms. leader that people cried on their knees when he was elected, statements like the above, the ignoring of clear empirical evidence of decline.
It's really amazing when you look at it from 30,000ft.

We are not collapsing. It is absurd to think that.
Not in my lifetime, sure, but nothing is invincible.

That one puts you at the top of the NSA list, HB. See you in Guantanamo Bay! (I hope they have DirectTV/SEC Network.

The USA is going down, but I don't think anyone is going to take our place. The Chinese need us to buy all of their crap. Even if they pull the plug on our credit, they are not going to have the resources to replace us with their own consumer market and run suburbia there. Plus, they are an environmental disaster.
I just hope we don't start lobbing nukes when things get bad and take our medicine like the Soviet Union. I think RCD has read him some Jim Kunstler -- the future is going to be profoundly local, not some big brother centralized nonsense. But for now, the dollar is the best looking whore in the room and our banking maestros do a nice job of keeping the extend and pretend game going. So, enjoy it while it lasts, bros.

According to Peter Schiff, increased living standards outside of the US would be the result. We're exporting inflation right now.

Two downvotes...
Collapse is inevitable for any empire, and that is certainly what the USA is in its current form (although, a very odd empire in that since the early 1900s we have refused to take large swaths of territory after the wars we have fought and have essentially fought "holding actions" since the mid-20th Century).
The answer lies in the means of the collapse.
Will if be a gradual and relatively peaceful political disintegration, with the USA splitting up into smaller regional nations?
Will it be a rather abbreviated and violent shattering of the nation into component parts?
Will it only be an economic collapse, leaving the rest of the world economy rudderless while the USA attempts, but fails, to recover?
Make no mistake...the days of the USA in its current form are numbered. I can only hope that it does not happen in my, or my children's, lifetime. However, it may be the only thing that saves any hope for the future.

You got me pegged, BM.
Kunstler's nihilist/scientific analysis re 'peak oil' was strong - and I loved the way he tied the sun/BTUs/Energy/Humanity all together - but it seems he just didn't factor in TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCE at all. As such, he (his analysis) fails.
Same from here forward. It'll go back to Local as the old systems (religious, cultural, economic and political/ideological) become ineffectual and irrelevant...but not for long; as modern high tech will change things as few even imagine. Barring an all out nuclear exchange, viral nightmare or geologic/natural whoop arse...I think we'll get over the hump...and the sky will be the limit.
I suspect that our own future acquisition of virtually unlimited power, will be our biggest challenge. The Singularity waits over the horizon. Like wise men have said, wanna know the real measure of an individual/group...just give them power.
Honestly, BM...I think it last forever. For all of us. Parallel Universes. Shaped to individual order. Your "enjoy it"...is the bottom line! Enjoy it...and share it!
