It's better than separate threads each week for each game. You're going to have these threads on the first page, regardless.

No it's not
There's nothing wrong with game threads. It's been that way for years. Why a season long thread now?
I'm pretty sure there was an Ohio State thread last year..but that was the only one.
There is nothing wrong with an in game thread on a Saturday where the MSB is dead for the most part outside of the game threads.
