That was the longest article ever that didn't answer anything.
"Did Tony die?"
"No, he isn't"
wtf?

Not sure why he would do this.
Tony's dead, but this is what you get when you leave any room for people too think otherwise.
That ending was shite, and years later, he's piling on more shite.
Thanks, a-hole.

When I watch a finale I like to have that final feeling.. like this is the end.. nothing will ever happen after this episode. I just didn't feel that.

It was a cop out, plain and simple.

I felt like the series ending was consistent with most of the season finales. Every one had a "holy shite moment" but they would happen at random times during the episode, they would rarely save it for the end.
Season 1 - Junior gets arrested, Tony tries to smother Livia. Episode ends with the Sopranos eating dinner at Vesuvio.
Season 2 - Pussy gets whacked. Episode ends with Meadow's graduation party.
Season 3 - Jackie Jr is killed. Episode ends with Tony holding Carmela and AJ while Junior sings at Jackie's funeral.
Season 4 - Carmela kicks Tony out. Season ends at the beach house with Tony's boat blasting Sinatra at his "neighbor". This is the only one that doesn't really fit the mold of it ending with Tony and his family, but his home life was destroyed at this point.
Season 5 - Tony kills Tony B, but Johnny Sack also gets arrested at the end so it doesn't really qualify. Episode ends with Carmela letting Tony back into the house after walking home from Johnny Sack's.
Season 6 - Phil Leotardo dies (best whack of the series ). Episode ends with the Sopranos at Holstens. AJ even repeats the "remember the good times" line from the Season 1 finale. Obviously Tony getting shot is the biggest holy shite moment of the series, but we don't see/hear it.

Please make the title less spoilery. Some of us haven't seen the show yet, and many of us have recently started it with it being newly available on Amazon Prime.
Finale was over 7 yrs ago. Is it still a spoiler at this point?

Had a brief and unsuccessful stint as head coach of the Miami dolphins.

Personally I think it's up for debate. It wasn't obvious either way what happened. There was some emphasis on the guy going into the bathroom, but the bathroom wasn't at a favorable angle behind Tony to wear the guy could sneak up on him. But it doesn't matter. Either he is killed there, or lives his life in fear and is eventually whacked. Same shite either way.
I don't see why everybody feels like they need to have closure.

anyone involved in the mafia is by definition not a"good guy".
that doesn't mean they're entirely evil either
tony was a bad person and his panic attacks and anxiety stemmed from several issues, primarily an inner conflict...once he's out of the coma, that conflict doesn't exist...he is a 100% psychopath

Tony's likability/soft side as a really bad guy is part of what made him the GOAT tv character
...and he dead.

He can say what he will but he's dead to me. If he isn't it kind of puts to shite that whole "it goes to black" convo.
Posted on 8/27/14 at 12:57 pm to TheIndulger
Imo what makes me so sure that he died was the whole scene with Meadow.
I mean wtf was up with her trying to repark her car and building up suspense if she didn't walk in just in time to see her dad get blasted?

I don't think her difficulty parallel parking implies that she walked in to see him get shot. It was just meadow being meadow IMO. Keep in mind there isn't necessarily a conventional purpose for everything in the scene.

If this guy says so, then it is true. The Penny Marshall Doctrine says so.
So all of you disagreeing are wrong.
I bet 75% of y'all say Dottie dropped it on purpose. Even though that scene is a lot less ambiguous.

well obviously Tony never really woke up from his coma. the remainder of the series was a dream. It fits the David Chase "dream within a dream" concept. I mean who goes around wearing a members only jacket post 1980's anyway? Had to be a dream.
The final scene going to black was Tony flatlining or could be viewed as that particular dream ending and the coma continuing (proving either theory relevant).
OK, so I'm BS'ing...Tony dead.

It suddently went (not faded) to black - either you accept the theory that he was whacked at that moment or (maybe in symmetry with the beginning of the series that he had another panic attack and passed out - but I don't subscribe to that.)
If the creators wanted to leave it ambiguous, they would have had Meadow come in, sit down start laughing with the family, pan the camera back and fade out to NYC while "Don't Stop Believin'" was playing, then roll credits.
That's where I thought it was headed, then it suddenly went black.
I thought - "weird" - and initially subscribed to the ambiguous theory. However, after reviewing the analysis, particularly the cues of the bell on the door- I'm convinced Member's Only guy did it as the bell rang when Meadow entered the diner.
No other ending makes sense. It was probably a haphazardly thrown together hit - he was a target of opportunity in Manhattan, and somewhat relaxed, with his guard down, around his family - not ideal, but it is what it is.
