I've always found it pretty fascinating how the different people who knew (or might have known) they were about to get killed reacted.

Tessio was pretty cool - He asked Tom to inform Michael that it wasn't personal, just business. And of course he took the long shot asking Tom if he could get him off "for old times' sake".

Frankie of course went the extra step. He killed himself. (Of course he had to so that his family would be taken care of). I always liked his line "and sometimes they threw a little party before".

Carlos is another like Fredo where you don't know how much he knew or suspected. But he struggled when the garrote went around his neck - kicking out the windshield.

All were pretty spot on characterizations of the different characters.

"Tessio was always smarter."

I never got that line. If Tessio were "smarter", he would've known the one attempting to broker the sitdown would've been perceived as the traitor. More ambitious than fat Clemenza, maybe, but definitely not "smarter" in any sense that I understand the word.

Which doesn't happen IRL. When your usefulenss is at an end, you get thrown under the bus.

Slight digression: The thing that a lot of people miss about GF is that Vito's talk of family honor, and Michael's urbanity notwithstanding, they're both just greaseball shitheads, like all the rest of them.
