ETAA: I like the idea of keeping one guy after this year and then redrafting
This could be done pretty easily. I like the idea of everyone keeping one and I have a scenario that I think would be good for all of us and the league as a whole in regards to the redraft:
Let's say you don't have a "star" on your team and don't want to keep anyone. The people who elect for this option will be able to choose 1 player from the pool after everyone cuts down to 1. This would ensure that everyone has a first round type guy.
You can reward the ones that kept a player by allowing them to have the first spots in the draft. If 8 keep players and 4 don't, the 8 that kept players would be the top 8 to pick, or they could elect to pick their draft order. So if someone was pick 8 and they decide they'd rather have 12 (and 13) they could do that.
The 4 that picked up a player would be the last to choose their draft position.

Thoughts?

Obviously I'm against blowing up our keepers since I spent the last two years trying to build mine up with the thought that we wouldn't be blowing the league up because some people can't compete. I don't think we should just jump to straight dynasty league either but also don't think we should lose 4 keepers. Perhaps meet in the middle and go from 5 to the option of 3 and those who keep less than 3 actually get the 1st dibs at the dropped players until everyone is at 3 then do the redraft and base the draft order off of preseason keeper rankings? I don't really have the perfect answer, I do agree something should be done. Trading draft picks to me would be the most immediate solution and some other anti tanking initiative but you have to balance that with not hindering teams who truly have no chance due to injuries from building for the future IMO

I agree knat. I like the 5 keeper format and want to work on limiting pick trading and tanking.
Keep this league at 5 keepers and let the other league be the dynasty.
2 competitive leagues with two different formats.

And I also am reasonably confident that switching to a dynasty won't make the entire league competitive if that's what we are shooting for. In fact it could make things worse for some teams. Have a bad first draft get hit with some Paul George/Derrick Rose type injuries and you are screwed for a long time with no reasonable outlet to get better anytime soon. Not to mention the same shitty owners will still be shitty in any format and their teams will eventually become a pile of crap that can't be fixed by anyone

Well in that case you'd have first pick in the rookie draft. So you'd be drafting Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Andrew Wiggins, etc.

Sounds good or best record of non playoff teams gets 1st pick and go down the line from there
i'm down for this, actually. great idea

i know everyone won't go for this, but we could let everyone keep 2 or 3 guys from their current rosters instead of the 5 and then hold a draft.
i'll do this, too

yeah i mean i don't want to be a dick, and i'm for change, but shite i've spent a LONG time and given up on a couple years to get the guys i have

or those who keep more guys, even with this system, forfeit early-round picks (the good guys do make that big of a difference)

that was my argument
this is the NBA...you don't get anthony davises every year. hell i gave him up to get kevin fricking love (and that didn't exactly work out for me)

what about dropping the # of required keepers, having a pre-draft draft to finalize keepers, and limiting pick trades?
like instead of "keepers" think of it as protected players
you can protect UP TO 4 players
if you don't protect all 4, we have a draft for the remaining players until everyone is at 4. we can do the order by reverse order of standings...or do this starting with non-playoff teams and go down the order
then we have the draft as we have it set this year, with our current pick trades in order
then, starting THIS year, we limit pick trades. i suggest a rule where if you trade a pick and receive a player, you must (1)keep/protect a player involved in the pick swap and (2) and declare the designated keeper/protection at the time of trading

We really need to hammer this out, but for now we know that we are keeping 5 this year.
Slow draft again?

I was about to say...if we don't keep 5 then the picks I traded last year become more valuable.
You guys tell me what you want to do and I will find a way to wtfpwn in that format.
