What from the above would qualify as characteristics of a show that's worth a damn?
I can stick a camera in my house, put it on the internet 24 hours a day, and make it available to anyone. That doesn't mean it would be good TV.
However, watching my show wouldn't make you stupid, like watching BB.

Don't feel bad though.... Reality TV is definitely a serious detriment to American society, but not near as bad as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc....

Certainly not disagreeing with you here. But to single out big brother as the personification of America's intellectual demise shows how ignorant you are to the happenings of the show.
It is the one reality show that requires strategy and intellect in order to advance yourself in the game. This isn't Real Housewives of XYZ or Real World. An end goal is clear and a strategy is required to get you there.

No doubt, Big Brother not only reflects, but embodies, the lowest common denominator. That said I can see how some people could have morbid fascination with it. Not I.
As far as threads on truly good movies are concerned, it does sort of suck at times.
