It is a great idea and I had sort of the same deal with my parents. The difference is I bought a cheap new car instead of a car with 100K on the clock. This car lasted me 13 years and allowed me to save for something else once I got out of college and started working.

I didn't have to worry about getting a new car and was able to save for a 20% down payment on a house. Just a suggestion to the OP. Think about what situation this car may put your daughter in when she graduates college. I'm glad I didn't have to focus on replacing my car.

It worked out very well and helped her not be wasteful. She would get money for good grades, birthdays and Christmas and stuff and immediately save it. Every once in a while she would buy some shirt or something over and beyond what we bought for her, but she didn't spend her money on $250 jeans like her friends did.
