Nola blonde is solid.
As is cane break.

Beer on tap > bottle or cans.

Go sit at bar at spirits in Alex.
Cool place with good beer on tap.

Most bars will give you a taste of the beer on tap. They may also give you six shots of the tap beer for a set price.

I would go to a well stocked bar and explain your situation. I am sure the bartender will take care of you.

Go during off hours, not when busy.

I really need a name change.. I'm from Colfax, but I now work with the railroad and live around Gonzales... So therefore spirits would be out of the question..

It's really hard to just go to a bar... Married and 6 kids from 9 to new born puts a kink in that idea.. Gotta have something to just pick up and bring home..

Parish Southcoast Amber is a good start.

If your wife loves coffee, Tin Roof Parade Ground Coffee Porter would be good. It is a seasonal though and not out for a few months.

ETA: Of course you can't go wrong with anything by Running Monk.

Oh, so you are from where I spent almost every summer vacation with my dad. 10 days or so on the lake. Daddy had to be close enough to drive to check on the rice fields

My wife likes coffee, a whole lot.. Ok, maybe she loves coffee...

A coffee stout or coffee porter would likely be right up her alley.

Trying to think of something widely available that would fit that bill. Maybe a Rogue Chocolate Stout or Rogue Mocha Porter. I'm generally not a big fan of their beers, but those are two exceptions that may be available there.

Edit to add Santa Fe Java Stout. Very nice canned coffee stout that may be available at LeBlanc's.

Fridge temp is fine, even better if you take the bottle out for 10-15 minutes before serving, just don't put your glass in the freezer. You lose a lot of flavor and aroma with ice cold beer.

Cenla, I know you have a cool half dozen chirrin'. About to leave your neck of the woods (44/42) and have some stuff you are welcome to try. Canebrake and Eurotrash Pils (gotta keep one for F1 Belgian Grand Prix this weekend)

Might have a few porters/stouts to send your way if that is what you want.

You talking about meeting up right now to get that.. I appreciate that but I've been on a train since 330 this morning and got off at 4 this evening and just got in the bed.. I definitely appreciate the offer though.. Very genuine!

I am in Detroit, so no, not right at this moment.

Will be back in suburbian Pville on Monday. Offer stands, can make you a small package to test your tastebuds.
