Feds: Obama Broke Law with Bergdahl Swap

President Obama violated a “clear and unambiguous” law when he released five Guantanamo Bay detainees in exchange for Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, the Government Accountability Office reported Thursday.
“[The Department of Defense] violated section 8111 because it did not notify the relevant congressional committees at least 30 days in advance of the transfer,” the GAO report said. “In addition, because DOD used appropriated funds to carry out the transfer when no money was available for that purpose, DOD violated the Antideficiency Act. The Antideficiency Act prohibits federal agencies from incurring obligations exceeding an amount available in an appropriation.”

the people that defend this will completely miss that this was a Government Accountability Office report.

Don't worry I'm sure Eric Holder will investigate this matter.

“If people can’t trust not only the executive branch but also don’t trust Congress, and don’t trust federal judges, to make sure that we’re abiding by the Constitution with due process and rule of law, then we’re going to have some problems here.”

Another terrific, timely report from the Federal Department of No shite, Sherlock.

The GOP is too scared of losing in November to bring up Impeachment on this now and there's no chance on God's green Earth that "his" (quote from earlier in the week) Dept of Justice will do anything.
Filing this under "Nice to Know" and "Wish Something Would Be Done".

The law is likely unconstitutional anyway.

Republican Chuck Hagel refused to abide by the law! For shame!

Obama already spoke about this and his excuse was that any advance notice to congress would have tipped off the captors.

There needs to be an Impeachment proceeding on this.
This is a written-in-stone limit on the Executive branch's power that was broken. Allowing this to pass is nothing less than a tacit approval of the Executive expanding their power into the Legislative branch and that new authority becomes the norm. Thus any future expansion of the Executive's power starts from at least this point.
Our political leaders should be MORE subject to the laws they swear to uphold, not less. If breaking a Constitutional limit on authority doesn't qualify as a "high crime or misdemeanor" then nothing does and we might as well just toss the Constitution now as its demise will be just an eventuality because no one has the balls to enforce it.

Do laws matter much anymore?

Obama also broke the law with the Osama bin Laden raid.
Bush broke the law plenty of times as well.
