It simply has to do with one simple concept/belief: do you believe human life is sacred and should be protected? If so, then it doesn't matter what form/condition that life takes.

I'm actually of the belief that being an atheist makes human life more precious and sacred, not less, due to there not being an afterlife.

I disagree completely. As a poor example, consider gold that has been mined and then shaped into a piece of jewelry. Before and after the transformation, the gold has the same intrinsic value, but the formation by a creator adds substantial extrinsic value. In a similar way, our lives being developed by chance through the process of natural selection have value, but it does not compare to the value of life that could have been crafted by a loving God. To Christians, life is a gift from the most powerful force in the universe, and that is of great value.

That being said, I appreciate your contribution to this thread. There is a member of my extended family with DS as well as several acquaintances through church. To say their life has no value, or that they suffer too much in life to be born is asinine.

It appears most atheist in this thread agree and rightfully label Dawkins as being an a-hole on this subject. Maybe in light of this, the downright blissful worship of his "logic" will be challenged by some of his devotees.
