Well, we should take it with a grain of salt until facts can be confirmed, but that sure as hell makes a lot more sense than a police officer opening fire on someone in broad daylight with eyewitnesses present for no reason other than walking in the middle of the street.

I agree, but there's no faking an orbital eye socket fracture. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the cops are smart enough to not bullshite about that.
