Agreed. Unfortunately we can't teach people common sense if they don't have it.

Bull shite.

In my case:
-Held on the side of I-10 for 1.75 hours while being accused of a crime there is no reason to be suspected of.
-Arrested for remaining after forbidden while filming the police. Turns out I wasn't breaking the law to begin with, but let's make him pay a bunch of money and do anger management classes by charging him with resisting arrest as well.

Innocent people have to fight false charges all of the time. The cops don't care, they are basically immune from any consequences of their mistakes. The tax payer will most likely be on the hook for it though.

Actually that brings to mind that law that got tossed out that cop friendly legislators passed does anyone remember where it was-- the one that made it illegal to tape cops?

Why don't you become a policeman and set the example.

TBH, the county sheriff where I live is fine.

The cops in Tampa, Florida in the early 70s were horrible.

They would jump out of their car and make the longhairs spread eagle on the sidewalk for doing nothing.

They busted a 15 year old girl for having drug paraphernalia because she had matches and a plastic bag.

I also had run ins with creepy cops in Athens, Ga and Buffalo, N. Y. when I had long hair but since I cut my hair the cops have been very civil even when they did stop me because I fit the description of a suspect they were looking for (once for murder and once for bank robbery).

Of course, I wasn't stupid and did every thing they told me to do without giving them an attitude.

In fact, here in SF, some cops are too nice.

Well, there are some people who feel it's their right to do what they want, and society will pick up the slack. This isn't always the case.

There are times being a victim can't be helped but a little common sense goes a long way to protecting your life and your property.

I don't expect the public to protect me, it's generally not how things work. shite happens, do what you can to minimize being hit by shite when it starts to fly.

I think all officers say that, and most citizens say that too.

While it is true, the same can be said of any thug?

The fact that it is an accurate statement does not make it acceptable.

Having learned that lesson, I've never picked a fight with a cop.

You saying cops are bullies?

Can only speak for myself, im 50 have been arrested twice spending time in jail in both instances yrs ago, also pulled over for various reasons a number of times. And in my case, i always gave the police a reason. Everytime. And if id been arrested for everything i should have been, id be in jail long after death. So ,even through im not a big fan of them, ive desevred what ive gotten from the police and more, much more.

I do not see many upset about the legal consequences of their actions, but rather the abuse of power by the police. A policeman can arrest you and put you in jail without being abusive. So, you want to be heard and have your say before you get put in cuffs, that does not mean that you need to be shot, tazed or otherwise abused.

Nothing positive comes from defying police officers. Just do what they say and get it over with.

Where do you draw the line? Random anal cavity searches?

The only reason it is common sense to never disrespect a cop is because it is widely understood and accepted that they can and will use their discretionary powers to ruin your life just because they don't like you.

This exactly.

I get that it is a hard job. Being a soldier is a hard job too (and at roughly 1/3rd the pay) but we train our soldiers not to point their weapons at random people.

There have been combat veterans commenting on just how wrong that photo is.

Is it that our police forces are poorly trained or is it that they have a god complex...we can do anything we want to you and there is nothing you can do or say about it?

For every cop that's ever take an advantage of somebody.... beat him down or hurt him, because they got long hair, listen to the wrong kind of music, wrong color.... whatever they thought was the reason to do it... for every one of those frickin' police I'd like to take a pig out here in this parking lot and shoot them in their motherfrickin' face

frick 'em all

Every single one of them.

Your dad gave you terrible advice.

My dad taught to stand up to those people.

His words: "If you let them bully you once, without a fight, they're going to do it the rest of your life."

The fact that it hurts some peoples feelings that police don't like them makes me laugh.

Well maybe if these "cops" started treating people with a little more respect, they'd get the same in return.

I've only a two run-ins with cops (one red light ticket, but the guy was fine), and a butthole cop re: open containers.
