I live on a remote farm, have some dogs but they are not very good watch dogs. So I bought the Chamberlain wireless motion alert system from amazon, with four sensors and placed them around the house in areas I thought a prowler might try to approach. They work well and supposedly have a 1/2 mile range. I also put in a four camera system with DVR and remote monitoring. Don't know how to use the remote monitoring yet, but I figure I am saving about 50 bucks a month and my total investment was around 500 dollars

fwiw, you can also get a conventional alarm system and just not have it monitored...saves the monthly fee, but still raises cane if someone sets it off...

ETA: fix your title and they may unanchor this thread...
