You may be confusing magnitude and intensity.
One is the force/energy the other is the "feel" or destruction.
I've never been in an earthquake.

Yep. I still jump and squeal like a little girl every time one hits. You'd think I'd be used to it after 5 years of feeling them all the time...nope.
