If it is shown through ballistics and so forth that is is likely the cops side of the story reported yesterday is true, that he was rushed and shot in self defense, does it even matter?

At this point, no. Had they been more forthcoming with information on the investigation, they may have earned the public's trust. But not now.

which information, exactly?

the autopsy wasn't done (And isn't really something that should be released in light of a criminal investigation) yet

I tend to disagree. I think the narrative was set when the friend gave his account (shot in the back, trying to surrender) and after that nothing else has or will matter.

Which is why I asked yesterday if the friend could be prosecuted if he gave materially false and misleading statements in a homicide investigation.

Yes, clearly this is the police's fault. Had they taken CNN's approach and put out half-truths immediately without due diligence this all could have been averted.

Will the facts matter? Of course not.

I have to say though, this situation feels different than the Trayvon debacle. This "protest" seems much more organized, with more "players" than we saw last time. It's almost like some of these forces had been waiting for another Trayvon-like event so they would have an excuse for causing trouble.

One thing never seems to change, though. These innocent, Eagle Scout victims who were simply whistling "God Bless America" while they were skipping towards Grandma's house....they never turn out to be very innocent, do they?
