Well, he did it to himself.

Dude came into a team that had been built to run a modified run and shoot and tried to immediately turn them into a power running team.

I just don't understand coaches who tried to force square pegs into round holes like that.

He also is apparently the paranoid type that bans reporters who refuse to be pure sunshine pumpers.

quote:

Chow recently threw a fit. During spring practice last week he ordered all media to stop interviews with players and coaches. Why? Because Honolulu Star-Advertiser columnist Dave Reardon was present. Chow reportedly yelled at Reardon that he was not welcome at practice — which had been opened to the public — and therefore all interviews must be stopped (Reardon volunteered to leave, but that didn’t change anything).

Chow, who later apologized, told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that he was angry about a column that Reardon had written that was critical of the coach’s decision to hire Kevin Clune, the Utah State linebackers coach, as defensive coordinator (even coaches with 4-20 records can’t be second-guessed).

Predictably, that backfired. Don’t like negative coverage? Then create more. Reardon’s column the next day ran at the top of Page 1: “Coach’s tantrum adds another loss to bleak record.” Talk about a gift for a columnist who is looking for something to write about during the dull spring season.

He's a surly a-hole who doesn't like to recruit, which is why he was never even on the radar to be a head coach anywhere when he was riding high.

If Kentucky and their student athletes are so poor and don't have any extra money for food how can they afford to go to the Bahamas for a week. Athletes have it a lot better than most want to admit.

Not all athletes are Kentucky's basketball team

Seeing as athletics is a privilege and not a right, none of this bothers me.

sad really

a decade ago I felt like he was repeatedly and unfairly passed over for a major head coaching job - today I think he's done it to himself and can't muster the same sympathy or respect

Doesn't surprise me. UH has terrible fan support.
